Normandale Preschool Staff

Normandale Preschool is licensed through the Department of Human Services and a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA). We are licensed to serve 75 students per session with a total enrollment of 150 students. The student/teacher ratio is no more than 1 to 10 for children ages three to five years.

Our teachers are well-educated early childhood professionals who model their Christian faith daily within the classroom. All participate in programs of continuing education for professional advancement in Early Childhood Education.


Director, Normandale Preschool

JoAnne, has a Masters Degree in Education from Hamline University as well as a B.A. in Elementary Education with Certification in Parent and Family Education. Before coming to Normandale Preschool, in 2006, JoAnne was an Early Childhood Family Education Administrator in the public school. Throughout her career, she has taught preschool through college age students. JoAnne and her husband have three young adult children. They enjoy travelling to visit their children throughout the U.S and the world.


Administrative Assistant

Jean, has a B.A. in History from St. Olaf College and an M.A. in Education from the University of Michigan. Before coming to Normandale Preschool in 2010, Jean was the Senior Secretary in the Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch at the University of MN. Jean is a member of Normandale Lutheran Church where she attends with her husband and children, who are alumni of Normandale Preschool.

Lead Teachers


Mrs. Anderson holds a BA in Music from Luther College and a Master of Music, Oboe Performance, from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She is an accomplished pianist and is the Assistant Director of Children's choirs at Normandale Lutheran Church. Angela's Children attended Normandale Preschool and we are thrilled to welcome her back to the Normandale Preschool Hallway as a staff member! She teaches one of our 3 day 3-year-old classes and our Orff Music class.


Emily graduated with a BA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  After moving to California, she soon found herself creating daily lesson plans and managing a classroom of preschool age students.  She feels that a play based program is important as students work on their social and emotional skills while learning language and pre-reading  skills through intentional play. 


Alicia, has a BA in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Her history includes that of Lead Preschool Teacher in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as substitute teacher in Cheney, Nebraska. Alicia took an active role in the lives of her children as a Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader and Classroom Volunteer.  She loves reading historical fiction as well as travel books and of course traveling whenever possible.


Mrs. Karen Hansen joined the teaching staff at Normandale Preschool in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Karen has many years of experience teaching preschool in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Much of her experience has been in faith-based programs just like Normandale Preschool. Karen is a seasoned teacher and strives to instill confidence, self esteem and an optimistic attitude in each of her students.


Madam Hargitt is a native French speaker and one of the founders of Normandale French Immersion Elementary School.  She has taught primary school in Lausanne, Switzerland, and in a Swiss French school in Bogata, Columbia.  Madam Hargitt taught kindergarten at the Edina, French Immersion School.  We are pleased to have her join us at Normandale Preschool as she offers French Fun, Mais Oui, and French Fun, Petits, French Immersion Enrichment opportunities for Normandale Students.


Mrs. Kamin recieved her BA from the University of Wisconsin. Before coming to Normandale she taught at Little Eagles Preschool in Eden Prairie. Mela has a passion for children and learning and loves to use a variety of teaching methods to bring lessons to life that will help children grow. Mela's faith is very important to her and informs her choices, attitudes and how she interacts with children. Mela is the teacher for our Virtual class, as well as teaching in-person.


Keri holds an MA in Speech Language Pathology from the School of Allied Health in Kansas, and a BA in Speech, Language & Hearing from the University of Kansas. She started her carreer as a Speech Language Pathologist at Bethany Medical and Health Midwest in Kansas. After moving to Edina, she became involved in the life of her children, volunteering on the CPC Leadership Committee and at Concord Elementary. Keri attends Christ Presbyterian Church with her family where they are active in a variety of ongoing activities.


Kristen graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA in Child Psychology and a license in Early Childhood Education. Her experience includes teaching at Good Samaritan Nursery School as a Lead Teacher and at Especially For Children. Both of her children are alumni of the preschool. Kristen began her long history of teaching at Normandale Preschool in 1999.

Assistant Teachers


Dawn is the Teacher Assistant in the 4 day 4 year old classroom. Dawn's children are alumni of Normandale Preschool! Dawn graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from St. Cloud University and has since worked as a paraprofessional in the Bloomington Public Schools. She has worked in Kindergarten, EBD, DC and ASD classrooms. Dawn has been with Normandale Preschool since 2014.



Ellen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota and graduate hours in Counselor Education and Educational Psychology from St. Cloud State University College of Education Psychology. She brings with her experience in crisis conflict resolution and has been a Guardian ad Litem in Hennepin county. 


Mrs. Honor Miller joined the Normandale Preschool staff in 2021 as an Assistant Teacher. Honor holds a M.S. in Elementary Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and a B.A. in History from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN. Mrs. Miller is an experienced preschool & elementary teacher and is the recipient of many awards and scholarships. She is a lifelong learner and strives to nurture curiosity and a passion for learning in all her students.


Mrs. Rachel Moulds joined the Normandale Preschool staff as an Assistant Teacher in 2021. She attended Argosy University to receive a degree as a Medical Assistant. Rachel has experience caring for both the elderly and young children in a daycare setting. She has great memories of Normandale Lutheran Church where she often attended with family and friends.


Mrs. Veronika Skorich joined the Normandale Preschool Staff in 2021 as an Assistant Teacher. She attended the University of Minnesota and holds a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. Veronika also has a B.A. in Public Relations from Gonzaga University, in Spokane, WA. She is proficient in both German and Spanish, a fun skill to share with preschool children.


Marlene Smith has a B.S. in Elementary Education with Preschool Endorsement from Crown College. Throughout her career she has taught at the preschool, kindergarten and elementary levels in various Christian schools throughout our state.  She believes that having activities that are engaging, fun and curiosity-driven, increases student learning about themselves, God's love and the world around them.
